Very Strange Moment Right Now

They're singing "Shout to the Lord"--the Worship song, the very definitely explicit Christian worship song--on American Idol right now.

Now it's over, and the Coke/Coke Zero legal shtick commercial is on...and I'm left thinking to myself: did that just happen? That was strange. I don't know what to make of that.

Now you can call 1-877-IDOL-AID.

Why not. Evangelicalism is pretty capitalist-bourgeois anyways ("bueshie" you might say); might as well mix it with a little coca-cola and a populist game show. They probably had a bunch of people voting for Jesus and feeling good about themselves, their diet soft drink and their television viewing habits.

(gotta do something to compete. the writers strike ended today.)

Do you think the Lord's name was used in vain? It would be weird to see that. Maybe some day, I will watch American Idol, but probably not soon. I'd rather be lined up in front of a paintball firing squad.

Well seeing as I am the only one of us three who both 1) was watching American Idol and 2) self-identifies as an evangelical Christian, it isn't surprising that I alone thought the moment strange. It wasn't strange in the manner of outward judgment. It was strange in the manner of waking up from a nap and finding you can't feel your arm at all. You can see it there--it is your arm alright--but not in the way you are used to relating to it. I would imagine the body reacts similarly when it is being poisoned --or, to be more precise, when the mind realizes that its body has become poisoned. Strange.
