Games

I was just thinking... I'd love to play Hitman (the gateway drug that turned logemann into a raving game-aholic) again right about now. Or original battle mode mario! Oh yeah.

Anybody know of an online game we could all play together. Maybe something turn-based so we don't have to all be on at the same time. Maybe online Risk or something.

Steve, that is perhaps the greatest idea I have ever heard... in my entire life...

My favorite turn-based game is Civ, but I don't have much time to play it. Have any of you ever heard of Diplomacy? It's a 7 player board game commonly played by email. If we got more than 7 interested people, we could have a couple of pairs if need be. There are "judges" that you can run all your email through to streamline interpretations of peoples moves and keep press functioning.

avalonhill/rules/diplomacy.pdf Sorry I don't know how to shorten the link. Instead, I just put it on two lines. One of the pluses of this game is that you can put in a lot or a little time into this game depending on how important diplomacy is to you.

so, if you're strapped for time you can play the "W" version...

We could re-arrange the letters in the names of historical persons to form witty descriptions of their character.

we could all play Blast Zorak and post our high scores online

If memory serves, I am the current Blast Zorak champion, though Dave once doctored a digital photo to suggest that he had beaten my score. He has always been a wizard with MS Paint.

so why isn't anyone saying anything about fun games we could play??? Steve, even though this is just a two player game, I have been getting in touch with Japanese culture lately by learning to play Go (that game with white and black stones that smart people are always playing in Pi or A Beautiful Mind). I'm sure there are online versions of that-- not to mention the fact that if you are a professional Go player in Japan, you win prizes in the hundreds of thousands of dollars. So, we could be training you for a new career.

My suggestions were somewhat serious. On a related note, Luke, Brett, and I did some Mario Kart racing tonight.

These foolish games are tearing me apart.

So, I typed in "turn based online game" into google and was instantly reminded of an entire population of males whose love life is even more dead than mine. That really made my night. Thanks, Steve... now I must sit alone in my appartment reading books and eating pretzels until Frasier comes on... (really, really living it up down here... does anyone want to go canoeing?)

So, just in case anyone is still following this idea--Strauss offered a couple of good suggestions. Here are a few more options:
Online Go

List of Free Online Turn-based games

Steve, do any of these options appeal to you?

I have one more idea. I know some of us like this one.

What I'd REALLY like to do is install Half-Life or Hitman 2 on my computer, then give Stephen remote access to my computer while I talk to him on the phone, and just lean back and watch the magic happen.

Straussums might have a winner there with catan online! Wanna try it?

Logey's List of Online Games looked terrible, but his "go" idea was pretty good. maybe we can do that.

Andy what about Scrabble?

Strauss said...

Is Ryan playing? If Ryan is in the scrabble game, I don't want to be anything more than a spectator. I'm not a big fan of playing games where I've lost before I've started.

the great thing about online scrabble is that it's so easy to cheat

Good point.
