More Wheaton News

I glanced over the "ballot" for alumni board representatives (though I don't apparently have a representative), and noticed at the bottom of the email, these few lines:

"We look forward to hosting nearly 800 of you during Alumni Weekend, May 5-7. View the full schedule of events, which includes a lecture by Dr. Mark Noll on the intellectual history of the College during the last 50 years. This month marks the end of Dr. Noll's tenure at Wheaton College; beginning in July he will become the Francis A. McAnaney Professor of History at the University of Notre Dame in South Bend, Indiana."

So, there goes Wheaton's most respected scholar. To a Catholic university. To the same Catholic university that granted Joshua Hochschield his Doctoral degree in philosophy. It should be an interesting lecture, though-- especially if he still holds the same opinions as in his Scandal of the Evangelical Mind days (ah, the inspirational Duane Litfin).

My sister was telling me this weekend that, as a result of Wheaton's stand on Catholics in general, and Josh in particular, Notre Dame will cease admitting Wheaton graduates into several of its graduate programs. This is perhaps not the best way to improve relations between groups, but an interesting escalation nonetheless (I bet Wheaton will soon announce that Notre Dame grads will no longer be welcome in its psychology grad progam...big loss, I'm sure). And then, and then... well, I don't know but I'm sure something terrible mature and rational will result. Oh wait.

Where is your sister getting her information? This sounds a bit far fetched to me... But stranger things have happened I suppose.

Whoa, sorry about that guys, Rachel must have got on my account and played a funny joke. No offense intended. I'm sure we can resolve the conflict like mature, rational, and civil men. ;-)

Wow, look at all the crazies we let into this site. Our standards are not what they once were.

To answer Dave's question, my sister's information comes from a friend of ours who is a doctoral student at Yale in theology. Apparantly the Wheaton/Notre Dame conflict has a wide spectatorship.

So yes, it is admittedly third hand (and such a position would probably be of the off-the-books variety anyway) and as such unprovable. Do with it what you will.

I'd like to place a bet on Logemann. (Gotta have my old roommate's back.) I'm sure Katie will have him in good fighting form by fight night.

I'll just avoid applying to Notre Dame this fall.
