Everyday a vacation: Reality in Hollywood

So here I am, kicking back in my sweet apartment looking at the Hollywood sign. I've just come back from a tasty chinese lunch at a place called "the most likely place to see a celebrity" by the Los Angeles Times. No dice, not a celebrity to be seen. That I recognized, at least.

It's been great out here. There is a surreal quality to everyday; Because I'm living in a tower, have a fountain right outside this tower, and can walk to any possible thing I'd want to, it seems like I'm on an extended vacation. I've been out here a month, but I can't help but wonder if it will always feel a little bit like that.

I'm working at what could potentially be my dream job, which is archiving the Beach Boys tape library.

And I'll slowly try to break into the music biz, but that's not something that is hurried.

There's my update for now.

sweeeeet! An Aeijtzsche update! (an update so nice, it's posted twice)

So, there was at least one celebrity siting at the chinese diner... Aeijtzsche from the Hitt Faktorie. (I hear rumors that H has been spotted in the waters off Phi Phi island.)

It all sounds pretty great... even if it becomes surreally mundane. You should read Nathanael West's Day of the Locust (if you haven't already). It's often considered the best Hollywood novel ever written, and it's a pretty good read, regardless.

Hi Aeijtzsche!

Hi Dave. Yeah, I'm certainly hoping to become a minor celebrity at some point, if for nothing else but to give others the opportunity to spot me.

I will check out that book.

Are you working for a record company or Brian Wilson's estate or a private organization or who? And are you archiving masters from recording sessions or live recordings or what? Just curious. Anyhow, it does sound like a very nice gig.

I'm working for this little company that has been sort of perma-contracted by Brother records to handle the Beach Boys catalog. We deal with audio masters, video, film...from recording sessions and live concerts and more.

It's my dream job.
